Embezzlement is a criminal offense that infringes on the legal property. An embezzlement is defined as the exploitation of a foreign movable thing that has come into the possession of the perpetrator in any way. Embezzlement is standardized as a crime in article 375 of the current Greek Penal Code. In its basic form, the crime of embezzlement is a misdemeanor and is punishable by imprisonment of 1-5 years. In some cases, embezzlement takes the form of a crime, in which case it is punishable by five to ten years, depending on the case.
