The crime of forgery was introduced in order to protect the security of transactions and the justified need of traders to certify the authenticity of all types of documents. Forgery exists when one prepares (from the beginning) a forged document or falsifies a genuine one, in order to mislead, by using it, regarding an event, which can have (legal) consequences.

According to the definition, in order for there to be a forgery offense, the forged document must be capable of producing legal consequences. If the document, although falsified, can not have legal consequences, there is no forgery.
